Powerful blast near Spanish embassy in Kabul

AT-KABUL: A powerful explosion rocked Kabul city around 6pm on Friday.

Initial reports indicate that a car bomb was detonated in the vicinity of Spanish Embassy in Sherpor neighborhood. Sherpor area is highly barricaded as Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum residence is located in the area and most of the the political elites also live there.

Officials said however that insurgents appear to have entered a building close to the embassy and are fighting against security forces.

The Ministry of Interior’s spokesman Sediq Sediqqi confirmed the blast but said details would emerge soon.

Security forces have cordoned off the area.
