AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Presidential special representative for Helmand security, Abdul Jabbar Qahraman called on the Taliban militants to lay down their arms as war offers no solution.
Briefing newsmen in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, he threatened the militants to elimination if they do not shun violence.
“We won’t wait any longer. I will go after them (militants) till to eradicate their roots in the province,” he said.
Hinting over some achievements made by the Taliban insurgents, he said that militants could not make further gains.
The Taliban insurgents achieved gains, but at a great price as their senior leaders were killed in different operations in the provinces.
Accursing neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, he said, “It is Pakistan that interferes in Helmand and other parts of the country.”
He said Pakistan was out to strengthen its foothold in Helmand to deflect criticism from the international community of its duplicitous role.
“Now that the security situation has been brought under control, the Taliban can’t move forward even an inch,” Pajhwok Afghan News quoted Qahraman, as saying. He insisted that an offensive would be launched soon to retake areas under Taliban’s sway.
Coordination among security organs had improved and other problems too would be overcome in near future, the official said without elaborating. “Central and provincial authorities have stepped up efforts to stabilize the situation.”
