KABUL: The Foreign Minister of the Gulf State of Qatar is disappointed over the recent actions occurred in Afghanistan, saying that “it has been very disappointing to see some steps being taken backwards.”
Qatari foreign minister, Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the Taliban Islamic Movement could learn from Qatar how to run an Islamic system.
He urged the Taliban to follow the Qatari system in the treatment of women and girls. However, Al Thani asked the international community to engage with the Kabul administration.
“We need to keep engaging them and urging them not to take such actions, and we have also been trying to demonstrate for the Taliban how Muslim countries can conduct their laws, how they can deal with the women’s issues,” he said. “One of the examples is the State of Qatar, which is a Muslim country; our system is an Islamic system, we have women outnumbering men in workforces, in government and in higher education,” he said.
This comes as the high schools and government universities remained closed for girls by Islamic Movement of the Taliban. The women employees working in the government are also banned from going to work.
The Qatari FM called on the Taliban to preserve the achievements gained within past two decades.
