AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif to visit Kabul on Sunday to hold talks with the Afghan officials and military personnel, said a Pakistani military spokesman for media wing Asim Saleem Bajwa on Friday.
According to the Pakistani military spokesman, the Army Chief of Pakistan is likely to hold meetings with the political and military leadership here in Kabul on 27th December.
However, he did not provide any further information regarding Sharif’s one day trip to Kabul. It is believed that the military chief of Pakistan would be on the agenda of peace process and restoring trust between the two neighboring countries.
This comes as leaders of the two countries talked about the stalled peace process during the Heart of Asia conference this month in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
Pakistan hosted the first round of direct peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban militants in Murree this year but the second round of peace negotiation planned in July failed when it was reported that the supreme leader of the Taliban Mullah Mohammad Omer died two years ago.
Mistrust between the two countries escalated after a series of the deadliest attacks across the country and capital Kabul as the Taliban launched their summer offensive this year.
