KABUL: The Taliban militants have attacked two police checkpoints in southern Urozgan province and killed five policemen and one another, local officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Chinartoy district chief, Faiz Mohammad Hanifi said, “On Tuesday night, the Taliban have lunched two separate attacks on security checkpoint in the district.”
According to him, the attacks have faced serious pushback by the Afghan security forces, where the militants have also suffered massive casualties. However Hanifi didn’t provide details about the number of the militant casualties due to lack of telecommunication facilities.
The Taliban group has not said anything in regards so far.
The attacks come as the Taliban group has presented the government with the offer of reduction of violence, but the Afghan government insists on a ceasefire agreement in a bid to facilitate the ground for intra-Afghan-talks in the ongoing peace process.
