Report: “228 Attacks Occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Since the Beginning of This Year”

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan has published a report stating that since the beginning of this year, 228 attacks have occurred in the province, resulting in significant casualties among Pakistani security forces.

The Associated Press of Pakistan, the country’s state news agency reported that around 100 Pakistani security personnel were killed and over 170 others were injured in these attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The report also mentioned that during this year, as a result of Pakistani security forces’ operations, 203 armed militants were killed and 612 others were wounded.

“From the beginning of 2024 to the end of last month, 104 terrorist attacks were thwarted by the country’s forces, and two suicide bombers were arrested before reaching their targets during this period” Counter Terrorism Department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said.

Pakistani officials added that in the last eight months, their security forces launched 2,232 military operations aimed at suppressing armed opposition in which a significant amount of military equipment was seized.

This comes at a time when insecurity, especially attacks by armed militants, has increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Bannu regions.

Residents of these areas have consistently expressed concern over the increasing targeted attacks and civilian casualties during clashes, calling for attention to ensure the security of their communities.

Most of these attacks have been claimed by the TTP. However, the TTP claimed that it carried out nearly 500 attacks in Pakistan during the first half of this year, with the majority of these attacks occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif have repeatedly stated that TTP has safe place in Afghanistan and organizes its attacks from there.

However, Taliban officials in Afghanistan have denied this claim, saying that they do not allow any group to use Afghan soil to threaten other countries.
