AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Hundreds of civil society activists on Sunday took out to the streets and staged peaceful demonstration to give vent to their anger over brutal massacre of innocent people in Jalalabad City.
Condemning the deadly suicide blast, they said that killing of the people could not be justified and is an intolerable and inhuman act.
The protestors chanted anti-insurgency slogans and were holding placards asking the insurgents to “Stop Killing”. They were gathered at the site of the attack and slammed the government for not announcing national mourning over the deadly human tragedy.
They asked the government to bring the perpetrators of the deadly attack to justice and urged the security organs to initiate foolproof security measures in order to prevent such untoward incidents. “Such attacks are no more tolerable. The government shall ensure safety of public and their properties. We cannot tolerate militants roaming in the cities and suburbs while killing our brothers and sisters,” Ahmad Agha, a protester said.
A suicide attacker in Jalalabad, provincial capital of Nangarhar, killed at least 33 people and wounded more than 130 when detonated his explosives-laden motorbike outside the New Kabul Bank branch in Mukhabirat square when government employees were busy in collecting salaries.
It’s worth mentioning that the Taliban for the first time not only condemned the attack but also denied involvement in the attack. Former spokesman to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Shahidullah Shaid, who claimed to be now the spokesman of the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
