Kabul: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the United States’ approach to combating terrorism in Afghanistan, stating that despite a two-decade presence, they failed to effectively address the issue. Lavrov highlighted Russia’s initial support following the Sept. 11 attack and noted that the U.S. intervention led to the creation of organizations like Al-Qaeda.
Lavrov said, “No one objected or called the entry of American coalition troops into Afghanistan an aggression or occupation. Everyone understood that such a terrorist attack must be held accountable. Twenty years of stay in Afghanistan showed that the Americans did not fight any terrorism.”
His remarks follow a deadly concert attack near Moscow, which claimed over 60 lives.
