KABUL: Afghan authorities say that Afghanistan’s saffron production has been increased to 22 percent comparing to the last year. Recently Afghanistan saffron has been recognized as the best in the world in terms of its quality for the eight consecutive years.
“Last year’s saffron corps was 16 tons, now it has been for 20 tons,” said Akbar Rustami, spokesman for the ministry of agriculture and irrigation.
Saffron is mostly cultivated in the western Herat province; however this year Balkh, Faryab and Kandahar have also produced a large amount of saffron.
Facilitation of fertilization land, providing standard agriculture system and establishment of public awareness program about the value of saffron, were the main reason for the increase of corps.
The ministry’s spokesman said that over 100 types of saffron have been examined in the laboratories that show Afghanistan has the best types of saffron in the world.
The saffron investors would earned a high amount of money this year as the ground has been paid for transition of domestic corps to overseas, said the ministry.
