KABUL: First Vice President, Amurullah Saleh warned Islamabad of paying high price if it continued providing support to the Taliban.
“Pakistan-as a host of the Taliban since group’s foundation -could play a significant role in the peace process, and therefore become a reliable partner of the Afghan nation,” Saleh said in a statement on Sunday.
He also hinted that the price of supporting Taliban “will be very high” and that the situation has changed, “not only us but the voices of conscience in Pakistan parliament strongly condemn the killings of Afghans at the hands of the Taliban.”
Saleh said, regional consensus has been created for the economic growth of Afghanistan but all countries want to improve relations with Afghanistan without Pakistan.
Saleh termed the Afghan delegation trip to Washington highly productive and full of achievements, saying that comprehensive discussions were held on the role of regional countries following the withdrawal of U.S. troop from Afghanistan.
Earlier, President Ashraf Ghani blamed Pakistan for providing systematic support to the Taliban.
Pakistan foreign minister, Shah Mohmood Qureshi expressed concerns over Ghani trip to Washington as not to consider Pakistan as the main factor in the Afghan conflict.
In a bilateral meeting of Afghanistan and Pakistan, Qureshi said that if President Ghani’s visit to Washington was aimed to point finger on Pakistan for the current turmoil, it would be unproductive.
Qureshi claimed that Islamabad has played an important role in the maintenance of peace in Afghanistan.
