Kabul: Russia has no plans to close its diplomatic mission in Kabul, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov told TASS on Monday.
“Such thoughts have not even occurred,” Kabulov said, when asked whether Russia had such plans.
Earlier, the Al-Arabiya TV channel reported that the authorities of several Arab and Western countries decided to close their diplomatic missions in Kabul because of security threats.
According to reports of Afghan media, Saudi Arabia has closed down its embassy in Kabul, and has evacuated 19 of its staff.
Official sources of Saudi Arabia and UAE have not confirmed the news yet.
However, Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid stated that Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic mission has not been closed in Kabul. “Saudi diplomats have traveled to Riyadh for training and will return to Kabul after a week or so,” he said.
