AT-KABUL: At least 42 Taliban militants have been killed and 32 injured in a series of operations launched by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in different provinces, security officials said Wednesday.
“Afghan National Army (ANA), the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Afghan National Police (ANP) launched joint operations in Nooristan, Ghazni, Logar, Kandahar, Helmand, Laghman and Paktia provinces in the past 24 hours,” defense ministry said in a statement.
“The militants were threading the citizens and created challenges for government in these provinces.”
“Security forces have also seized several weapons and tens of landmines. The militants wanted to plant the landmines on the roadsides to target security forces and innocent civilians.”
Civilians across the country are the most victims of the landmine blasts.
The statement also confirmed that five army soldiers were “martyred” during the counter-terrorism operations.
In another statement, the 201st Selab Corps of the national army said that six Daesh fighters were killed in a drone strike in Achin district of Nangarhar province.
The corps did not detail if the airstrikes were launched by the Afghan airforce.
