KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday met with the Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affaris of Qatar for Combating Terrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, and his delegation at his office, where he praised Qatar’s efforts in the Afghan peace process.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions over upcoming intra-Afghan talks scheduled to be held in Doha in mid-April.
“The aim behind intra-Afghan talks in Doha is to pave ground for a durable and sustainable peace to be prevailed in the country,” a statement from Karzai’s office said.
Karzai assured any sorts of cooperation in this regard.
The first round of intra-Afghan talks was held in Moscow in early February, where a number of Afghan influential figures and political parties held direct talks with the Taliban members for the first time with some achievements.
Expectation is much higher for second round of talks between Afghan politician team and Taliban with hopes to give birth to a lasting peace and stability in the country.
