KABUL: The Afghan security forces have discovered and defused 64 landmines planted by the Taliban group in southern Paktia province, the Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
The Taliban insurgents had placed these landmines in Rohani Babam and Zurmat districts of the province to target civilians and security forces members, which was discovered and defused by Afghan security forces, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Afghan security forces succeeded in preventing several bloody incidents by defusing these landmines.
Taliban have generally hidden IEDs and roadside bombs along main roads, highways and heavily populated areas to target security forces, but the innocent civilians are the main victims.
