AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have destroyed a bomb-making factory belonged to the Taliban insurgents during an operation in southern Helmand province, security official said.
Officials in the 215th Maiwand Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) said the factory was destroyed during an operation in Nad-e-Ali district.
At least 15 suspects were also detained during the operation, the officials added.
However, the Taliban insurgents have not commented yet.
Security forces are supposed to accelerate targeting factories producing Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) for the Taliban militants, as the insurgents used IED’s as their significant weapon against Afghan and foreign forces. But, however, civilian are the worse victim of these mines, including women and children.
According to the UN report, civilian casualties in the country have reached to a record number since counting began in 2009, with 5,166 civilians recorded killed or maimed in just the first six months of this year, of whom almost one-third were children.
The total civilian casualties recorded by the UN between 1 January 2009 and 30 June 2016 have risen to 63,934, including 22,941 deaths and 40,993 injured.
Based on the report, the anti-government elements remain responsible for 60 percent of the civilian casualties with ground engagements continuing to cause the highest number of civilian casualties, followed by complex and suicide attacks and improved explosive devices (IEDs).
