AT-KABUL: A suicide bomber was shot dead by security forces before managing to target a market in northeastern Badakhshan province, security officials said Sunday.
In a statement ministry of interior said that the operatives managed to gun down the suicide bomber in the Baharak district late Saturday.
The bomber planned to detonate his explosives among people in a busy market, but was identified and gunned down by the security forces before reaching the target, the statement added.
By killing of suicide attacker security forces operatives succeeded to prevent a bloody incident.
This comes as reports emerged earlier last night said that a group of suicide bombers attempted to attack the Baharak district administrative compound.
Separately, top Taliban commander was killed in a clash with security forces in northeastern Badakhshan province, local official said.
“The terrorist was identified as Rahm Khuda and involved in different terrorists activities in the province,” district police Chief Abdul Wodoud Rasekh said.
“The attack took place in Baharak district after a number of Taliban insurgents attacked a military check post.”
“A soldier was also killed and three others were wounded in the clash,” Rasekh said adding that “the insurgents fled the area after their commander was killed.”
However, he did not provide more details about the clash.
