KABUL: The Afghan security forces have killed at least 19 Taliban fighters during preemptive operation in southern Helmand province on Friday night, said security officials on Saturday.
Ministry of Defense said that the Army Commando conducted a preemptive crackdown against enemy and targeted their hideouts in Mirmando and Haydarabad villages of Nahr-e-Saraj district in Helmand, killing 19 Taliban insurgents.
In a statement, the ministry said 19 terrorists were killed and two rockets, 15kg opium and 47 mines with some other ammunition destroyed.
The operation was successfully conducted without any casualty to the Afghan army and civilians, the statement added.
Military operation against Taliban insurgents intensified across the country in the wake of ongoing peace talks to find a logical end to the Afghan conflict.
