KABUL: The ongoing military operation by the Afghan security forces is in full swing in northern Takhar province, in which at least 28 Taliban insurgents have been killed so far, security official said Wednesday. In addition to that 18 more Taliban fighters received injures during operations.
Col. Sayed Qurban Musavi, commander of 217 Pamir Military Corps told Pajhwok Afghan News that an operation of Afghan forces was underway in Dasht Kala district of Takhar from the last few days.
He said 28 Taliban rebels were killed and 18 others wounded during a fight in Shahr-i-Kohna area on Tuesday night.
Taliban’s designated governor for Baharak district, Mulavi Abdul Razaq and the insurgent group’s commanders, Dost Mohammad Mesbah, Usmani, Mullah Noor and Mullah Hamza were among the dead.
“These rebels had destabilized Mawra-i-Kukcha area and Dasht Kala district,” he said.
Takhar governor’s spokesman, Jawad Hajri, told Pajhwok that Afghan forces recaptured huge areas from Taliban in Dasht Kala district.
“Afghan forces would build two new bases in Dasht Kala district in the near future,” he said.
Taliban did not comment about conflict in Dasht Kala district.
The anti-Taliban operation is continuing in the face of ongoing peace efforts to end the long-decades war in the country. Both Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents have intensified attacking each other while the Afghan and US governments making efforts to make reconciliation. Despite progress in the peace talks, there was a setback after the revocation of intra-Afghan talks in Doha.
A delegation of 250-member was about to hold talks with Taliban negotiation members in Doha salted for April 20, but cancelled after Taliban and Qatari expressed their disagreement over who to attend the talks.
Taliban group in a statement reacted over fat government delegation, saying it’s a formal talk in one of gulf country not a wedding party in one of hotels in Kabul.
However, this has caused frustration among Afghan and US officials. US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalamy Khalilzad expressed his disappointment over delay in the talks, terming intra-Afghan negotiation important to end the war in Afghanistan.
