KABUL: Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Saturday said that the Afghan security forces have retaken Dara-e- Takht of Heart province and Dar-e-Kamanj of Ghor from the Taliban.
Dar-e-Takhat in Chesht district of Herat was under control of Taliban for nine years and Dara-e-Kamanj of Shahrak district of Ghor was for two years, where both areas have been retaken by Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF) in separate intensive operations, said MoD in a statement.
According to the statement, ANSDF carried out ground and air operations since three weeks in Ghor, Herat and Farah provinces, in which Dara-e-Kamanj the most vital point in Ghor-Herat highway was freed from Taliban.
Around 100 Taliban fighters along with their commanders laid down their arms and surrendered to Afghan security forces, the statement added.
Similarly, Dara-e-Takht of Chesht district was recaptured by Afghan security forces, where this area also had an important geographical role for terrorists, the statement added.
The Afghan security forces also cleared the number-2 highway from the Taliban that connects Bamyan, Ghor and Herat provinces, it added.
During operations, the Afghan security forces killed 48 Taliban militants and destroyed six strongholds of the enemy, the statement mentioned.
“Hundreds of mines planted by Taliban in route were also discovered and neutralized.”
Based on the statement, the Taliban insurgents were taking extortion from the drivers and residents during their time of control. The Taliban fighters also damaged the streets, the statement added.
