AT-KABUL: Security officials rejected presence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters in Afghanistan and termed the recent news reports as rumors and a new tactic of the Taliban to pressurize public and the government.
Officials in the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) briefed Meshrano Jirga on current security situation.
Hesamuddin Hesam, the Deputy Director of NDS, said that the enemies of people of Afghanistan are utilizing all resources to spread rumors about emergence of ISIS (Daish) in Afghanistan.
“The security situation is not that much deteriorated. The propagandas about presence of ISIS have disrupted public minds,” He added.
He said that security forces stood ready to thwart such conspiracies orchestrated by terrorists.
The acting Defense Minister, Inayatullah Nazari, told senators that those hoisting the black flag are old militant faces with new flag. He said that security forces do have the capability to subdue the militant groups.
“War in Afghanistan has a political base, thus, it needs a political solution,” Nazari said, adding that regional intelligence agencies were fueling extremist insurgent groups in Afghanistan.
He stressed on dismantling financial networks associated with the Taliban.
The two officials reject presence of ISIS at a time that local officials in various provinces confirmed emergence of the terrorist group.
