Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Meshrano Jirga or Senate on Sunday expressed serious concern over insecurity and asked the government to take concrete steps to improve the law and order situation across the country.
Senators asked the National Unity Government (NUG) leaders to put aside their differences and take steps to ensure safety of the citizens.
They said that there was rift between President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah. The senators said the two leaders should prefer the national interests over their personal benefits.
Gulalai Akbari, a senator from Badakhshan, said that northern Afghanistan is threatened by insurgents as the Taliban have moved from China, Pakistan, and Tajikistan and attacked three police posts in Jurm district.
Twenty-seven policemen were killed, nine were beheaded and 30 others were captured by the Taliban as the government failed to support them in the battle which started from 4:00 am to 8:00 am on Friday morning, she said.
She further said that Jurm, Wardoj and Yangam districts of Badakhshan are going to fall to the Taliban, if the government does not support police.
Gul Ahmad Azami, a senator from Farah, said that insecurity is a sensitive issue and number of armored vehicles and cars with tinted windowpanes had increased in Kabul City.
He said that corruption in provincial organizations has been rampant as most of the government organizations are managed by the caretakers. According to reports, many vehicles with black windowpanes have links with increase in crime rate.
Nisar Ahmad Haris, a senator from Kabul, said that security situation is worsening day by day as security personnel and civilians are killed by the insurgents on daily basis but the NUG leaders are busy in “power sharing process”.
The government had to put an end to insecurity and ensure safety of citizens as every day people are killed near their homes, said Farhad Sakhi.
Anarkali Hunaryar, a senator from Khost, said that security officials should be summoned to explain why insecurity is growing so rapidly and what plans they got to tackle it.
Nadir Baloch said the president and CEO should keep aside their differences and pay attention to the problems that have affected lives of civilians.
Abdullah Qarulq, a senator from Kunduz, said that a joint commission comprised of Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga members should be formed to meet with the president and find a solution to the ongoing uncertainty and restore peace and stability.
Lamenting over deteriorated security situation, he said that almost all parts of the country are insecure including Kunduz province. He said that three out of six districts of Kunduz would fall to the Taliban if the government failed to take notice.
Regarding the peace process, he said that the reconciliation process would end nowhere if Pakistan was not sincere and does not bring the Taliban to the table of talks.
Chairman of the MJ, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, asked the government for tight security measures across the country and said the security officials would be summoned on next Sunday.
