Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: Members of the Meshrano Jirga on Sunday staged a walk out protest as the summoned high-ranking security officials failed to appear before the Senate.
The gate of Meshrano Jirga (MJ) or Senate was closed down till coming Wednesday as protest after the minister of foreign affairs and some other officials denied appearing in the Senate.
Chairman of the senate, Fazul Hadi Muslimyar, said the senators would continue to boycott the session and meetings of the parliamentary committees until the summoned officials appear in the Senate and answer questions of the senators on insecurity and other issues.
He said the officials are reluctant to appear before the parliamentary committees or in the session. “The authorities must answer questions of the senators in order to know if the NDS-ISI security pact is behind increasing insecurity and killing of the Afghan soldiers in different areas,” Muslimyar said.
Killings and beheading of local policemen by the Taliban in Jaliriz district of Maidan Wardak province, growing insecurity and ambiguous policy of the government were the main challenges that forced the senators to summon the officials.
Replying to a question, Muslimyar said the protest would continue until their demands were met by the government.
He said the senators would decide on next Saturday what to do if the government does not accept their demands, and they will decide if their presence in the Meshrano Jirga is for the benefit of the country or not.
The senators also decided to appoint a fact finding commission on Jalriz incident where scores of local policemen were killed and injured in Taliban’s large-scale attack.
