Senators urge action against peace spoilers

AT News

KABUL: The Afghan Senators have urged to clamp down on spoilers undermining the Afghan peace process – as these circles have been emboldened to take constant action to imperil the prospect of peace designed to end war in Afghanistan.

A number of Afghan Senators in their Sunday session called for immediate actions against the circles inside the government and Taliban group, who are hell-bent on sabotaging the Afghan peace process.

They also expressed concern over intensification of insecurity across the country.

“Insecurity has been escalating,” said Senator Nabia Mustafi. “The districts are not secured. Beside the economic and health crisis, the insecurity has concerned the masses.”

A peace process, according to her that takes the lives of several people every day, is nothing but a meaningless approach.

To ensure a sustainable peace in Afghanistan, she demanded to summon the security authorities – and bring into account those individuals creating hurdles against the peace process.

Gul Ahmad Azimi, a representative of western Farah province, said that the government has failed to provide a proper security in the province.

“Those willing to sabotage the peace process should be kept away from the process otherwise, it will not be ensured,” he added.

Mohammad Hanif Hanifi, a representative of Uruzgan, said that some figures within the government and the Taliban have been trying to make obstacles on the path towards peace.

According to him, the level of violence should be reduced and rather efforts for peace should be doubled.

Chairman of the House, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar has ordered the security and defense commission of the parliament to summon the Afghan military authorities.

The Afghan masses want peace, he said, adding the level of violence must “come down”.
