AT-KABUL: A senior Islamic State (IS) also known as Daesh terrorist, has been killed in a US airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province. The news came at the end of a week in which two US service member were killed in Afghanistan in 2019.
Provincial governor office said that the drone strike carried out in Chaparhar district, in a Daesh stronghold, killing one of its senior members. “Qari Naqibullah was killed, and he was involved in destructive activities in the province in the past several years.”
On Tuesday, a U.S. service member has been killed in a firefight with the militants in southern Uruzgan province of Afghanistan—marking the second American soldier casualty in this year.
The soldier was hit by small-arms fire in Uruzgan province in central Afghanistan, north of Kandahar, said military spokesman Col. Dave Butler. The shooting is under investigation and military officials declined to release details.
The soldier’s name is withheld for 24 hours to allow for family notification, the spokesman added.
The death came four days after U.S. Army Ranger Sgt. Cameron A Meddock, of Spearman, Texas, died from injuries he received in a gun battle in Afghanistan, UPI added.
