AT-KABUL: At least seven top commanders of the Taliban were killed and another seven wounded in an airstrike launched by army air force in southern Helmand province, security officials said Tuesday.
In a statement ministry of defense said the airstrike was carried out in Garamser district late Monday.
“Mullah Mujahid, Mullah Agha Mohammad also known as Mullah Mashar, the former shadow district chief of the group, Mawlavi Mustafa and Mawlavi Hedayat were among the killed,” the statement said.
The Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report.
Elsewhere, at least 20Taliban insurgents were killed and wounded in different operations lunched by security forces within past 24 hours across the country.
In a statement ministry of defense, said that afghan national army in collaboration with afghan national police and national directorate of security operatives conducted operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Kapisa, Ghazni, Khost, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Badghis, Ghor, Farah, Faryab, Baghlan, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul and Helmand provinces.
“In these operations, 20 insurgents including a commander were killed and injured while two others were arrested,” the statement said.
It added police discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
