AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Shinwari tribal elders from eastern Nangarhar province decided to put aside their differences, lend their support to the Afghan government and ensure security of their respective areas.
Hailing from six districts of the province, the tribal elders the other day issued a resolution, where they decided to support the government and not let foreigners to use their houses for their subversive activities.
“We are committed to remain united, support the government and will not allow foreigners to use our houses for terrorist activities,” Said Malik Osman, while reading the resolution.
He urged the government to clear their areas of militants. “Once our areas were cleared, we will protect them from influx of insurgents,” Radio Azadi quoted Malik Osman as saying.
The tribal elders after three weeks of talks reached a conclusion on Monday.
Malik Suhail, another tribal elder, urged the government to bring reforms in judicial organizations in order to decrease the distance between people and the government.
The provincial Governor, Salim Khan Kunduzi, welcomed the decision and said that the Shinwari tribesmen have decided to stand against all those insurgents, who are fighting against the government.
The provincial police chief, Fazel Ahmad Sherzad, said that government forces will soon clear Shinwari region from the Taliban and would hand over the districts to the people. “We will clear the districts and will give them [the districts] to local police. We will also provide weapons to maintain their security,” he added.
Shinwari tribesmen are living in Haska Mena, Achin, Spinghar, Nazian, Ghanikhel, and Durbaba districts of the province.
