Special task force formed to fight Daesh

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Wednesday said that pursuing the recently drafted anti-terrorism strategy, the spy agency has established a special task force to fight Daesh in Afghanistan.

The NDS’s spokesman, Hasibullah Sediqi, said the strategy was formulated by the National Security Council. He said the spy agency would accelerate its efforts against terrorists according to the strategy, adding that the special task force to fight Daesh comprised of operative section, analysis and operational detachment.

Speaking at a joint press conference with spokesmen of ministries of interior and defense, he termed Daesh a serious threat for Afghanistan and said that NDS operatives would fight against all terrorist groups.

Daesh’s footprints were seen in three provinces including Helmand, Farah and Nangarhar. Clearance operations were launched and followed seriously by the NDS, he added.

Mullah Abdur Rauf, a Taliban leader who defected to the Islamic State in Helmand, has been killed and six other Taliban fighters with Daesh’s flag were arrested in recent crackdown by the NDS operatives in Nangarhar province, he said.

Ministry of Interior’s spokesman Sediq Sediqi said that clearance operations were underway against all terrorist outfits including Daesh.

He said that 35 Daesh fighters have been killed and four others arrested in recent operations in Nangarhar province.

Urging the regional and global players for support in the fight against the Islamic State which known as Daesh in the country, Sediqi said that terrorism was not only a threat for Afghanistan, but for all regional and world countries.

Spokesman to the Ministry of Defense, Gen. Dawlat Waziri, said that Afghan security agencies, particularly army is capable of dismantling the terrorist groups and defend the Afghan soil.

He said that after withdrawal of 150,000 foreign troops, ANA conducted operation independently and maintained security in the country, a good indicator telling us that Afghan army has the capacity to upset the militants.

It is worth mentioning that most of Daesh fighters were once Taliban members, who laid down the white flag and raised black flag and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Afghanistan.

The National Security Council has approved a new policy this week to suppress the Islamic State in the country. Sayed Zafar Hashimi, the deputy spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, told reporters the other day that the militant group is currently active in Farha, Nangarhar and Helmand provinces.

Foreigners are also among the IS fighters in Afghanistan, the deputy spokesman said.
