AT-KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani appointed Masoom Stanikzai as acting Minister of Defense and introduced him to the Wolesi Jirga for a vote of confidence as minister-designate for the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
A press statement issued by the Presidential Palace, said that the president introduced Stankizai as the Defense Minister- designate to the Wolesi Jirga for a vote of confidence.
The statement added that President Ghani through two separate decrees appointed Qadam Shah Shaheem as the Chief of Army Staff and Abdul Khaliq as the Deputy Minister of Defense.
Masoom Stankzai has served as national security advisor to the ex-President Hamid Karzai. He was secretary of the High Peace Council (HPC).
