AT-KABUL- Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation Mrs. Adela Raz attended and delivered a speech at the fifth “Stockholm 2018 Forum on Peace and Development” at the invitation of Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallström and; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden, Isabella Lövin. The Event was held in Stockholm from 7-9 May 2018, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Raz, talked on peace and development; and mentioned the challenges and achievements of the National Unity Government in the economic, social and political areas aimed at economic growth and development, coordination of aid, consolidating government institutions, role and empowerment of women, growth of the private sector and civil society.

She also hinted at the importance of areas of agriculture, trade, communication, and regional cooperation, identification of challenges and addressing them during peace making and peace building and preventing conflict, the statement added.

The Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation said that the Afghan conflict was a different one in comparison with other conflicts and stated, “Unfortunately, Afghanistan is at the frontline facing international terrorism and that the Security and Defense Forces of Afghanistan are fighting the terrorists on behalf of all other participants.

“Today, Afghanistan is gifted with a generation committed to growth and development of their country, who are hopeful for future and positive change, despite existing difficulties and challenges.”

It is worth mentioning that the forum was held jointly by the Swedish Foreign Ministry and the International Peace Research Institute of Stockholm, aimed at exploring the knowhow of obtaining and strengthening peace and prevention of conflict. Over 700 people participated in this event.
