AT-KABUL: A large number of lawmakers at the Wolesi Jirga of the Parliament on Monday strongly reacted over recent decision of Pakistani government regarding merger of FATA to KP, urging for stronger reaction of the National Unity Government against this unlawful move.
Despite, the Afghan government had its reaction against FATA merger, but the MPs still not satisfied, calling upon the Afghan officials to take the issue with the Pakistani government “very seriously”.
Stronger reactions were needed to make realize the Pakistani officials that Afghanistan stands firmly in defending of its territory, the lawmakers added.
According to MPs, Pakistan already kicked off illegal activities alongside the Durand Line, demanding the government to adopt clear measures to stop it.
Hinting to the high-ranking Afghan delegation visit to Pakistan, leading by National Security Advisor, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, the lawmakers urged security brass to raise FATA’s merger to KP with the Pakistani authorities.
Pakistan’s National Assembly recently passed a bill for the FATA merger – a move Kabul terms it against the 1921 agreement between Afghanistan and the British India.
And any decision over FATA must go through its people and in the light of a public consensus, the presidential palace said in statement on Sunday. “The Afghan government believes that such decision without consultation with Afghanistan – which compromises the independence of the tribal regions – would not be helpful to solve the issues.”
