AT-KABUL: Police arrested Tuesday a suicide bomber who attempted to blow up his explosive-laden car near the Jomhuriat hospital, less than 100 meters from interior ministry, Kabul police headquarters, the main office of the intelligence agency and a girls’ high school, interior ministry said.
The attacker intended to pass the police checkpoint with the pretext to shift a patient to the hospital and attempted to approach himself to the forbidden security areas, according to the statement.
“The attacker had filled the car with a lot of explosives, trying to approach to the prohibited security area,” the statement added. “He was identified and detained by the intelligent services of interior ministry before reaching his target.”
The statement also said that the terrorist was in the custody and police started investigation. Jomhuriat hospital locates near the ministry of interior and Kabul police headquarters.
The area is also home to the Indian embassy, which was twice attacked in 2008 and 2010, leaving scores dead and injured.
