KABUL: At least five civilians were killed and 11 others wounded after a vehicle they were traveling in, hit with a roadside bomb in Surobi district of Kabul, local officials said on Tuesday.
District Governor, Gohar Khan Baburi said the explosion occurred in Jak-Dalak village of the district. Women and children were also among the casualties, he added. Baburi said the wounded evacuated to the hospital.
As of now, no militant group, including the Taliban, has asserted the responsibility for the blast.
This comes as some residents of Surobi had earlier nagged the government for not paying attention to the security situation in the district. They said the Taliban have surrounded the district and abducted over 30 local residents on charge of cooperation with the government.
The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission has expressed its deep frustration over surge in civilian casualties, saying that over 1,213 civilians (126 women-225 children) were killed and 1,744 others (171 women-405 children) maimed at the first two quarter of 2020.
Based on an earlier statement of the commission, over 86,823 civilians were killed and maimed by the Taliban from 2009 to 2019.
