KABUL: A batch of 124,000 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine donated by the Swedish government has arrived in Kabul, the public health ministry said on Friday.

The vaccination process will begin today (Saturday), according to the ministry. An official of the ministry, Dr. Dastagir Nazari, who was appointed by the health ministry to hand in the vaccine, thanked Sweden for supporting Afghanistan in combating the pandemic virus.

The vaccine would be implemented to those who had received the first dose of the similar vaccine. He said in the near future two more packages of Astra Zeneca vaccine will be provided to Afghanistan.

This comes as Afghanistan recorded 631 cases of the Covid-19 with additional fatalities of 24 deaths. Earlier, the Afghan health officials voiced concerns over the shortage of the Oxygen balloons and other medical equipment in the hospitals to treat the patients.
