AT-KABUL: Warplanes of neighboring Tajikistan bombed on Monday parts of Darqad district of northern Takhar province– in the wake of clashes that had erupted the day before between Taliban drug cartels and Tajikistani border police – which left six insurgents dead, said officials.

Takhar Police Spokesman Khalil Aseer said that Tajikistan aircrafts has bombed the Jungle (forest) areas, which located in Darqad district of Takhar near Tajikistan border, after clashes erupted between Taliban and Tajikistan border police in the area.

He said that clashes started yesterday (Sunday) 5:00am and continued till afternoon in the area between Taliban fighters and Tajikistan border police and the airstrike was part of supporting to the Tajikistan border police.

Taliban were smuggling drug in the area, while clashes started, he added.

He said that during clashes Tajikistan aircrafts bombed the area, which as result six Taliban fighters were killed and nine others wounded.

Two Tajikistan border police also killed during clashes, he noted.

The jungle area is a quite remote area of Darqad district located near Tajikistan border and mostly Taliban are active in the area.
