AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said that Tajikistan will join the Afghan Pakistan Transit and Trade Agreement (APTTA) soon.
Musafer Qoqandi, spokesman for the MoCI, said that Tajikistan’s participation in the agreement will help Afghanistan to a main transit corridor between the two countries.
He added that implementation of the agreement will on one hand pave the ground for domestic products to find access to international markets while on other hand it will turn Afghanistan into a bridge between South Asia and Central Asia.
“The agreement will allow Pakistan’s cargo trucks to enter Tajikistan through Afghanistan and vice versa,” Radio Azadi quoted Qoqandi as saying. He added, the transit trade pact will also allow Afghanistan cargo trucks to enter Tajikistan and Pakistan. He said that the agreement will be signed within 15 days.
The APTTA came into effect in 2010 which allows Afghan cargo trucks to enter Pakistan via Torkham on their way to Wagah port. It also allows Pakistani cargo trucks to reach Afghan ports.
Officials in the Afghanistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) termed Tajikistan’s participation in the APTTA beneficial for all the stack holders and said that Afghanistan will not be capable to receive enough benefit from the agreement, as comparing to Pakistan and Tajikistan.
