AT-KABUL: Tens of residents of northern Takhar province staged protest against the provincial deputy governor and accused him of fueling rifts among tribes.
The protestors urged the central government to sack the deputy governor of Takhar, Farid Zaki, soon. The angry protestors blocked Takhar-Kunduz highway and warned to continue their protests if their demands were not met.
Sunatullah Temor, the spokesman for the provincial governor office, rejected the protestors’ allegations and said that they have sent their representative to talk to the protestors to reopen the highway. Thousands of passengers are stranded on the highway. The passengers also urged both the local officials and protestors to reopen the road.
