AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Hundreds of Taliban militants have stormed security check-posts in Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak province, official sources said.
Spokesman to the provincial governor, Attaullah Khogyani, said the other day that police posts on the Kabul-Bamyan Highway in the district came under the militants attack on Thursday morning.
He said the Taliban fighters had blocked the highway for traffic.
According to the spokesman, a fierce gunfight between the police and insurgents was underway and additional policemen were dispatched to the district to bring situation under control. He said that two local policemen were killed and several injured in the battle, claiming that the Taliban had also suffered heavy casualties. However, he did not provide exact data to prove his claim.
Pajhwok, a local news agency, reported that the clashes erupted at around 3:00am and the militant group succeeded in capturing six security posts.
The news agency said that three Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were also taken as hostage by the insurgents.
An official, wishing anonymity, said that the central government failed to cooperative with the provincial authorities despite repeated requests for reinforcement.
Taliban has launched its warm-season offensive on April 24 this year while launching massive scale attacks. The militant group has seized control of several areas in Kunduz province. Though, the Taliban are at loggerhead with Daesh in the country and are also engaged in informal peace talks with the Afghan officials, the insurgent groups is not ready to announce ceasefire and stop attacking the security forces.
