AT Monitoring Desk-PUL-I-ALAM: The Taliban have ordered stopped work on some development projects in Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province, residents complained on Tuesday, a claim the insurgents confirmed.
A tribal elder in the district, Siraj Ahmad, told Pajhwok Afghan News that reconstruction work on the Sorkhab-Pul-i-Kandahari, Dehno-Pul-i-Kandahari and Sorkhab-Barg roads had recently been launched.
He said the government initiated the development projects after many efforts of local people, but the Taliban banned work on the projects about few weeks back.
Meanwhile, a tribal elder in Ahmadzayo village, Mihrabuddin, said the rebels had also set afire four vehicles of construction companies working on the roads. “Insurgents told these companies to stop work on the roads but when they ignored and continued their work, the Taliban burnt their vehicles.”
They and some other residents of the area asked the Taliban to allow the uplift projects in their areas.
Logar provincial council member Haseebullah Stanikzai confirmed receiving complaints about the issue. He lamented the local administration had been unable to address the problem.
Meanwhile, Logar governor’s spokesman, Saleem Saleh, acknowledged the Taliban had stopped work on development projects.
He said government officials with mediation of tribal elders had started efforts to resolve the problem.
On the other hand, the Taliban confirmed the topic, with their spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, saying the fighters had stopped work on some projects.
He said: “Every company working in Logar should inform our relevant commission and share all its documents about a project like how is the project’s quality? Who finance it? Where it is being implemented? And who works on it?”
According to him, the mentioned companies had not shared their documents with the Taliban’s commission, thus their work was banned.
