KABUL: The Afghan security brass have blamed the Taliban group for carrying dozens of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and twisted in the direction of soft targets after they were defeated in the battlefields.
Head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), General Zia Saraj said that militants had carried out more than 18,200 attacks in the past one year. “Taliban behind 99 percent of these attacks,” he said.
Speaking to the senators on Tuesday, Mr. Saraj said that NDS operatives had arrested over 6,000 terrorists in the past one year on charges of different offenses and 3,600 among them were involved in terrorist activities. 270 of them were involved in targeted killings, Mr. Saraj said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Interior, Massoud Andarabi, said targeted killings in Kabul and provinces are the new war “strategy of the Taliban” and they wanted to attack soft targets after they were defeated in battlefields by the Afghan security forces and failed to capture more territory.
“Some of the arrested militants have confessed that they had several meetings on how to plan and implement the target killing strategy, under which they target civilians, including civil society members, activists, religious leaders, journalists and other segments.”
According to Minister Massoud, Taliban were defeated in different parts of the country, particularly in Helmand and Kandahar provinces and they sustained heavy casualties.
However, he was assured of different progress on how to cope with the challenges.
It is needless to say that Kabul security has deteriorated, where magnetic blasts are now a daily case the city.
