AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A top Taliban commander, including seven other fighters have been killed in a drone airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said.
The Provincial Governor Spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said that the airstrike took place in Mashwani area of Bati Kot district of the province.
According to him, the group of insurgents had been targeted by drone strike when they were traveling in a vehicle toward Bati Kot district.
Khogyani identified the killed Taliban commander as Shaista Khan, aka Kamran. However, the Taliban insurgents are yet to comment into incident.
The killing of Taliban fighters comes while Islamic State (IS) also known as Daesh terrorist group are making all out efforts to turn Nangarhar as their safe hideouts. For longtime Daesh fighters are doing level best to inroad in the province. In the past, Daesh terrorist killed innocent people, abducted residents and even torched civilian houses. However, currently, the Afghan security forces have been engaged in clearance operation, in which a large number of Daesh fighters have been killed and wounded.
