AT- KABUL: Taliban coordinated attack against a district headquarters which started with detonation of suicide truck bombing Thursday morning foiled by Afghan security forces, provincial officials said.
A Taliban suicide truck bomber at around 5:00m in the morning attacked the entrance of the Charkh District headquarters and then unknown number of fighters tried to force their way into the compound but were prevented by security forces, Khalilullah Kamal, the district chief told Afghanistan Times.
Following the coordinated attack around 250 Taliban fighters launched armed attacks against security forces in the district, but the militants were pushed back after reinforcement arrived in the area.
“One of our army soldiers was martyred in the bombing and the district police chief is among few security personnel, who received minor injuries” Kamal said. “We don’t have additional casualties.”
According to Kamal, at least 12 Taliban fighters were killed and several were wounded in the ongoing clashes. The reinforcement also has been arrived in the district and “now Taliban are pushed back enough and fighting still continue away from district headquarters” he said.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, as usual, claimed that 41 police and army personnel, including the district administrative governor and police chief were among the killed persons. He claimed that the fighting was still on in district headquarters by several suicide bombers.
