AT-KABUL: At least 17 militants have been killed in a conflict between the Taliban militants and the loyalists to the Daesh (aka IS) terrorist group in eastern Nangarhar province, local official said Monday.
Provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashreqiwal, said the clash took place in Da Nari Aab area of the Haska Mina district.
“A Daesh commander identified as Zamin was killed along with 10 other loyalists of the terror group and 15 others were wounded,” Mashreqiwal said.
He added that six Taliban militants were also killed during the gun battle and four others were wounded.
Separately, two Daesh fighters were killed in an airstrike in the Achin district, Mashreqiwal said.
A commander of Taliban involved in insurgent activities in Shinwar district, joined reportedly the peace process as a result of the efforts of the Afghan Local Police.
The commander was identified as Fateh Khan who is originally a resident of Kunar province.
Nangarhar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan, where armed militant groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.
