KABUL: Residents in Nusai district of northern Badakhshan province staged besiegement against the Taliban, after the militants started distribution of local-owned lands to their fellows.
Abdulghafar Khangardish, the district governor for Nusai said that the militants have been distributing the lands for 5,000 Afs since last week in Sandak and Belhuda villages of the district.
The land was covered with jungle, he said, adding that the Taliban removed the trees, and hand it over to its fighters. There is no reconstruction on the land as of now, he said.
The land is located in north of the district nearby the border between Tajikistan.
Sources among the local people said that a number of tribal elder met with the Taliban to claim the lands, but the militants brutally beaten them up.
“The local residents after being beaten up by the Taliban, has started besiegement the Taliban fighters,” said the source. The besiegement is established under the title of” Resistance Frontier”.
The besiegement was formed in coordination with the Afghan security forces, the source said.
Nusai is located in the north of Badakhshan, where, according to the local people, besides the Taliban foreign militants are also active.
