KABUL: Local officials in southern Urozgan said that at least five police personnel were killed in a Taliban attack in Tarinkoot, the capital city of the province.
Provincial Governor’s Spokesman, Zargai Ebadi on Saturday said the Taliban insurgents attacked security forces checkpoints on Friday night in Yak Ling and Sofia village of the city. Five more police personnel were wounded in the attack. One Hmavee of the security forces was also damaged in the attack.
The attack was pushed back by the Afghan security forces, Ebadi said, but didn’t provide details whether the militants suffered casualties.
Urozgan is one of the insecure provinces in south of Afghanistan, where the Taliban has a strong presence.
The intensification of attacks by the Taliban comes, while the government freed the last batch of the remaining 5,000 Taliban prisoners that were signed in US preliminary peace deal with the insurgents on February 29th in Doha.
