AT-KABUL: Taliban fighters fired “several” rockets at the parliament’s new building Monday morning, where top Afghan security officials were answering questions raised by the lawmakers regarding the mounting insecurity, security sources told Afghanistan Times.
“Four rockets have been fired at the new parliament building located in southwestern part of Kabul city,” a top security official said on condition of anonymity.
“Three rockets crashed in the premises and one hit the parliament building, causing little damages,” the source said, adding that no one was hurt.
Officials of the ministries of defense and interior as well as caretaker of the National Directorate of Security were answering the lawmakers’ questions on security issues at the time.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its fighters fired several rockets at parliament building and a nearby military base.
The new building of the parliament was built by the government of India as a gift to the Afghan people.
