KABUL – In a startling revelation, Asif Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s former special envoy to Afghanistan, has claimed that the Taliban are issuing weapons permits to members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), allowing them to operate freely within Afghanistan.
Durrani, speaking at the Ambassadors’ Lounge, suggested that while the Taliban publicly denies any ties with TTP, their actions tell a different story. He also warned that Afghanistan’s ongoing security challenges demand either Taliban intervention against terror groups like ISIS and TTP or cooperation with neighboring countries to tackle terrorism.
Meanwhile, Mohsin Dawar, leader of Pakistan’s National Democratic Movement, accused the Taliban of being a tool of Pakistan’s influence and called for a Taliban-free Afghanistan during a Pashtun tribal event. Dawar emphasized that Afghanistan’s security and sovereignty are essential for the Pashtun people’s global respect.
In response, the Taliban have denied these accusations, accusing Pakistan of harboring ISIS-Khorasan militants. However, UN reports continue to express concerns over terrorist groups, including TTP, al-Qaeda, and ISIS, operating in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
