AT-KABUL: Two policemen were kidnapped Saturday evening in the western province of Herat, local officials said.
Provincial governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad confirmed the incident, saying “the two officers were travelling in a private vehicle to the Chesht-e-Sharif district. Their vehicle was stopped by the Taliban insurgents late Saturday, who took the officers to an unknown place.”
The Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report.
This comes as the provincial governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi had said earlier that the abduction cases had reduced by almost 40 percent the province.
Rahimi said the 76 abductors were detained by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel. The detained kidnappers were active in five groups in different parts of the province.
He said the court sentenced 19 kidnappers to death and the cases of the remaining were being investigated.
Meanwhile, 278 different kinds of weapons had also been seized from kidnappers in the province, Rahimi said.
