KABUL: A tribal elder was shot and killed by the Taliban militants in a wedding party in eastern Paktia province, sources said on Wednesday.
A number of Taliban insurgents attacked the wedding party in Ahmadabad district of the province, killing Jan Mohammad, father of the groom.
According to the source, Jan Mohammad was a tribal elder who had no personal enmity with anyone, including the Taliban.
The reason behind the shooting is not clear yet. The relatives of the slain Mohammad blamed the Taliban for killing him.
The Taliban insurgents have usually attacked wedding parties and religious ceremonies. One day prior to the incident, the Taliban insurgents killed a man and wounded eight others during a funeral prayer in Farah province.
