KABUL –Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, confirmed on Friday that the Taliban have crafted a comprehensive strategy to neutralize the activities of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within the borders of Afghanistan.
Durrani has said the revelation emerged during his meeting with Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, Amir Muttaqi, and senior Taliban security officials in Kabul on Thursday.
The central focus of the meeting revolved around addressing the TTP issue, with Durrani underscoring Pakistan’s serious concerns about the TTP using Afghan territory for activities against Pakistan. He reported that the Taliban has committed to taking concrete measures to impede TTP activities within Afghanistan.
Furthermore, Durrani stated, “Both nations are also collaborating on a plan to bolster security measures along the border regions, marking an ongoing effort.”
This visit marks Durrani’s second trip to Afghanistan, following his discussions with various Taliban officials in July. It occurs in the context of repeated expressions of concern by Pakistani authorities regarding what they perceive as the “threat of TTP activities in Afghanistan” to Pakistan’s security.
