KABUL – In a continuation of corporal punishment across Afghanistan, the Taliban publicly flogged four individuals, including a woman, in Parwan province on Monday. The Taliban’s Supreme Court reported that these individuals faced charges of “fleeing from home and sodomy.”
Each person received 39 lashes, with two sentenced to one-year prison terms and the others to six months, according to a primary court ruling in Sayed Khel district.
This incident is part of an escalating pattern: in the last month alone, over 70 people, including several women, have been publicly flogged across Afghanistan, a practice facing mounting international criticism. The U.N. Human Rights Council recently passed a resolution condemning these acts, demanding an immediate cessation. Amnesty International also expressed alarm, highlighting the lack of fair trial procedures within the Taliban’s judicial system, which it deemed a “grave” concern.
